Mandatory Attire: Non-synthetic pants, long-sleeved shirts, and closed toed shoes are required. Halloween costumes are welcome as long as they meet these safety requirements (see Clothing/Equipment Requirements below).
Grab your friends, throw on a welding safe costume, and spend Halloween building a unique metal pumpkin in this fun, festive welding workshop! This session introduces the basics of MIG welding through a low pressure, beginner friendly project. You'll learn basic welding safety and set up, get real hands on time with the welder, plus tips on finishing and painting, all without the pressure of a full technical curriculum. It's also a great pick for couples or friends looking for a unique Halloween date night. Join this supportive, festive workshop and connect with a community of fellow makers!
What You’ll Make:
Students will create a handcrafted decorative pumpkin. They'll customize it with their choice of paint and take home a unique Halloween decoration that can be displayed year after year.
Skills & Concepts You’ll Learn:
Shop and welding safety (PPE, fire prevention, ventilation, and safe handling).
Hands on tack welding practice with a MIG welder.
How to assemble a steel art project using a jig for clean, easy fit up.
Techniques for finishing and painting your completed piece.
Equipment & Tools You’ll Learn:
MIG welders, welding helmets & PPE, welding tables, clamps, wire brushes, and painting supplies.
Class Outline:
Welcome, Intros & Safety: Students introduce themselves and get a brief welding safety orientation. Costumes are encouraged, provided they meet shop safety requirements (closed toe shoes, long sleeves, no loose or dangling clothing, and no masks or accessories that interfere with welding PPE). Leather aprons, welding helmets, gloves, and other required PPE will be provided.
Project & Tool Demo: The instructor demonstrates the project, tools, and welding process students will use to build their pumpkin.
Hands-on Assembly: Students assemble their horseshoe pumpkins with guidance from the instructor, tack welding the pieces together.
Finishing & Painting: Students clean and paint their pumpkin at the outdoor paint station.
Wrap-up: Optional group photo, final questions, and take home your handmade Halloween decoration.

Clothing/Equipment Requirements?: Pants, long-sleeved shirts, and closed toed shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. Fabrics must be natural like cotton or leather, do not wear synthetics as they can melt if a spark comes in contact. Costumes are welcome as long as they meet these requirements and don't include masks, loose clothing, or anything that could interfere with welding PPE.
About the Teacher
Isabel Delgado is an AWS-certified welder and fabricator with over 8 years of experience in MIG, TIG, and stainless steel work. She’s built custom tubing systems and precision components in manufacturing shops, and previously taught welding at Lincoln College of Technology. She loves making welding simple and fun for beginners, and is excited to teach intro MIG at Denver Tool Library!
