Skills & Concepts You’ll Learn:

  • Essential welding safety: PPE, ventilation, and avoiding electrical hazards.

  • An overview of different welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick).

  • Fundamentals of the MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding process.

  • How to set up a MIG welder, including voltage and wire speed settings.

  • Proper technique for creating a strong, consistent weld bead.

Equipment & Tools You’ll Learn:

  • MIG welder, angle grinder, welding helmet, gloves, clamps, and other metalworking hand tools.

Class Outline:

  1. Theory & Safety: Welding history, overview of different processes, and a deep dive into safety protocols.

  2. Demonstration: Instructor demonstrates proper MIG welder setup, technique, and common mistakes.

  3. Hands-On Practice: Students get dedicated time to practice laying weld beads with instructor supervision.

  4. Wrap-Up: Review, Q&A, and discussion of next steps in your welding journey.

About the Teacher

Nathan Koral is an Electrical Engineer working in the Denver art community since 2015. He has degrees in physics and math from the University of Colorado. Using his skills with welding, machining, electrical engineering, and lighting design, Nathan has helped several artists build public artwork all across the country.
