Checking Tools Out

Who Can Check out Tools on my membership?

Only the person or people authorized on your account can checkout tools. Depending on your type of membership (individual, household, and organization) there may be between one and a few people who can be authorized. Anyone can check your tools in.

HOLDS & RESERVATIONS:

If there is a tool you would like to check out that is unavailable, we can put you on a list and give you a call when it becomes available. We cannot, however, reserve a tool for you that you would like to pick up on a specific day in the future - all tools are on a first-come first-served basis.

BITS, BLADES, & ABRASIVES:

Bits, blades, and abrasives may come with your tools, however we cannot guarantee they will due to the nature of their heavy use. We do have some of these items available for purchase at the shop, and you are welcome to buy any of these items elsewhere to use with your tools. We encourage our members to donate their unwanted bits, blades, and abrasives when you’re finished using them so we can lend them to the next borrower.

During Your Lending Period

RENEWALS:

You are able to renew most of your tools one time for one extra week, however, there are no renewals for high-demand tools. You are able to renew all your tools except for high-demand tools through your MyTurn account. High-demand tools vary by season but may include: Table saws, rototillers, framing nailers, impact drivers, compressors, lawn mowers, sewing machines, rotary hammers, hammer drills, weed whackers, large tile saws, and concrete mixers.

TOOL PROBLEMS:

We do our best, but it’s impossible for us to fully inspect and test all of them every time they come in. If there is evident damage to your tool, if it’s missing a part, or if it doesn’t feel right while it’s in operation, please don’t use it! Bring it back and we’ll replace it.

Clean Your Tools

When returning your tools, please make sure they are clean and tidy. This means: removing dirt and debris from your lawn tools, emptying your shop-vac, emptying your saw dust bag, wrapping your extension cords, and organizing your bits.

LATE FEES:

Late fees are accrued per tool and a per calendar day basis, meaning late fees apply even days when we are closed.

  • Hand tools: $.50/day late fee.

  • Power tools: $1/day late fee.

  • High-demand tools: $3/day late fee.

If you have tools to return and are not feeling well, please EMAIL US and we’ll work together from there.

If a tool is 60 days late, you will be given 1 week to return/replace tools or membership is revoked. You will be responsible for the full replacement cost, plus a $10 administrative fee, to replace severely delinquent and/or severely misused and neglected tools. You understand that the Denver Tool Library reserves the right to use appropriate steps to retrieve delinquent tools or unpaid fees including charging my credit card, the use of a collection agency, and/or legal action. The DTL also reserves the right to forgive fees due to special circumstances.
