What You’ll Make:
You will create and take home a set of three sterling silver stacking rings. Each ring can be customized with different textures and finishes, making your set unique and ready to wear.
Skills & Concepts You’ll Learn:
Essential studio safety and proper tool handling
Properly measuring and sizing a ring
Filing and forming silver wire
Soldering with a torch to create a seamless join
Shaping and rounding rings on a mandrel
Applying various textures with hammers and stamps
Finishing and polishing techniques for a professional look
Equipment & Tools You’ll Learn:
Jeweler’s Files, ring mandrel, soldering torch & set-up, hammers, stamps, and quick polishing equipment.
Class Outline:
Studio Safety & Introduction: Overview of tools, torch safety, and project goals.
Demonstration & Sizing: Instructor demonstrates each step, from measuring to soldering. Students size their rings.
Hands-On Fabrication: Students form, solder, and shape their rings with individual guidance.
Texturing & Finishing: Students apply textures and polish their completed ring set.
Wrap-Up: Review of techniques, care for silver jewelry, and Q&A.

About the Teacher
Liz honed her skills while earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in small metals and sculpture. Inspired by the world around her, she continued her education with a Masters in Cultural Studies. Liz’s extensive experience in metal work includes welding, blacksmithing, and a career in sculpture conservation, including working at the Smithsonian. Her teaching background ranges from first grade art classes to private jewelry lessons and has spanned over a decade.
