Together, you and your partner will transform sterling silver into custom, handcrafted band rings while learning the timeless art of metalsmithing. What You’ll Make:
You and your partner will each create and take home a custom sterling silver band ring. You can choose to create matching rings or design individual pieces that complement each other, using various textures and finishes to reflect your personal styles.
Skills & Concepts You’ll Learn:
Essential studio safety and proper tool handling
Accurately sizing a ring for a perfect fit
Sawing, filing, and forming silver band stock
Using a torch to solder a seamless ring joint
Applying unique textures with various hammers and stamps
Professional finishing and polishing techniques
Equipment & Tools You’ll Learn:
Jeweler’s files, ring mandrel, soldering torch, texturing hammers, metal stamps, and polishing equipment.
Class Outline:
Safety & Intro: Welcome, studio safety overview, and a demonstration of the core techniques.
Sizing & Fabrication: Partners work together to measure, size, cut, and form their rings.
Soldering & Texturing: With individual guidance, each person will solder their ring and apply custom textures.
Finishing & Wrap-Up: Final shaping, sanding, and polishing to complete your rings, followed by a review and Q&A.

About the Teacher
Liz honed her skills while earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in small metals and sculpture. Inspired by the world around her, she continued her education with a Masters in Cultural Studies. Liz’s extensive experience in metal work includes welding, blacksmithing, and a career in sculpture conservation, including working at the Smithsonian. Her teaching background ranges from first grade art classes to private jewelry lessons and has spanned over a decade.
Liz is the owner and creator behind Covert Metals, a one-woman metalworking studio located in Denver, Colorado that has roots reaching from New York to Texas.
