Learn how to troubleshoot and repair two of the most common household plumbing problems - dripping faucets and toilets that won’t fill or shut off. We’ll also cover replacing kitchen and bathroom faucets and installing new toilets. With the right tools and knowledge, these projects are easier than you think and can save you a lot of money. Skills & Concepts You’ll Learn:

  • Understanding faucet and toilet systems and their components

  • Diagnosing plumbing problems quickly and accurately

  • Repairing nearly any faucet

  • Removing and replacing kitchen and bathroom faucets

  • Understanding shower control valves

  • Adjusting or replacing toilet fill valves and flapper assemblies

  • Removing and installing toilets, including wax seal replacement

Equipment & Tools You’ll Learn:

  • Adjustable wrenches, basin wrenches, pliers, and more

Class Outline:

  1. Prep & Planning: Plumbing theory, key terms, tool overview, system understanding, and material selection

  2. Demonstration: Dismantling faucets, examining parts, taking apart a toilet, and showing installation on a mock floor

  3. Hands-On Practice: Passing around faucet and toilet components for close inspection. Please be aware that due to the nature of teaching plumbing in a workshop setting, hands-on practice will be limited.

  4. Wrap-Up: Review and Q&A

About the Teacher

David Cooke has taught home repair classes for thirteen years. He’s written articles on home repair and improvement for a local magazine and appeared weekly on a television program in Boston as the "Resident Home Repair Guy" for two years. David ran his own home repair and improvement business for most of the last 30 years. Dave also plays in a band, was a comedian, and is a retired judge / attorney.
