Drywall installation, repair, and re-texturing is a satisfying and surprisingly easy skill to learn. With the right tools, some simple techniques, and a bucket of mud, you can finish new walls and ceilings or restore damaged ones. Learn to fix cracks, holes, and patches so they disappear, and save yourself hundreds of dollars in the process. Skills & Concepts You’ll Learn:

  • Preparing surfaces for repair or installation

  • Cutting and installing sheetrock

  • Taping and finishing joints, nails, and corners

  • Repairing cracks and holes of all sizes

  • Blending and matching wall textures (knockdown, stomp, swirl)

Equipment & Tools You’ll Learn:

  • Screw guns, taping knives, trowels, texture tools, and more

Class Outline:

  1. Prep & Planning: Key terms, tool overview, layout planning, and material selection

  2. Demonstration: Installing drywall on stud walls, cutting to size, and repairing damage (including patching holes)

  3. Hands-On Practice: Installing drywall using screw guns and practicing repair techniques. Please be aware that due to the nature of teaching plumbing in a workshop setting, hands-on practice will be limited.

  4. Wrap-Up – Review and Q&A

About the Teacher

David Cooke has taught home repair classes for thirteen years. He’s written articles on home repair and improvement for a local magazine and appeared weekly on a television program in Boston as the "Resident Home Repair Guy" for two years. David ran his own home repair and improvement business for most of the last 30 years. Dave also plays in a band, was a comedian, and is a retired judge / attorney.
