Understanding single-phase wiring and “60 cycles”
Service panels, circuit breakers, and GFCIs
Receptacles, wall switches, 3-way switches, and dimmers
Adding outlets or switches using “old work” boxes
Fishing wire through walls
Using Romex cable: cutting, stripping, and connecting
Swapping out light fixtures
Mounting ceiling fans
Choosing and using the best tools
Safely testing electrical circuits
Equipment & Tools You’ll Learn:
Wire strippers, voltage testers, screwdrivers, drills, and more
Class Outline:
Prep & Planning: Electrical theory, key terms, tool overview, layout planning, and material selection
Demonstration: Retrofitting a ceiling fan box, replacing a light fixture, wiring a dimmer switch, and safely opening a service panel
Hands-On Practice: Wiring an outlet, stripping Romex, and making secure connections. Please be aware that due to the nature of teaching plumbing in a workshop setting, hands-on practice will be limited.

About the Teacher
David Cooke has taught home repair classes for thirteen years. He’s written articles on home repair and improvement for a local magazine and appeared weekly on a television program in Boston as the "Resident Home Repair Guy" for two years. David ran his own home repair and improvement business for most of the last 30 years. Dave also plays in a band, was a comedian, and is a retired judge / attorney.
