PSA: Broke a Tool? We won't be Mad!

Ok, so you sawed the blade right off the handle- it happens!!!

We understand that tools can break or reach the end of their life while you’re working on your project. If a tool becomes damaged or breaks while you’re renting it out, just let us know when you return it (We promise we won’t be mean or mad at you)!

If we don’t know it broke, we can’t fix it! When we know that a tool is broken, we can pass it along to our in-house, tool repair guy (who can fix a whole lot of tool issues) and we can prevent it from getting checked out to another DTL member, saving them potentially from a bad day!

Thanks for helping us help you!

You don’t even have the opportunity to break our tools because you’re not a member?? The opportunity is only $150/year!

Bring Yer Dogs

We often get asked if dogs are allowed at Denver Tool Library so we thought we’d set the record straight- Not only are your furry friends allowed at the tool library, we definitely ENCOURAGE you to bring them along!! We love meeting your very good doggo’s, just keep an eye on them around the pokey tools.

Are you a dog that doesn’t have a Tool Library Membership yet? What are you doing! A whole year is the price of just a few fancy toys, and think of all the sticks you can make.

Check out these shop dogs to boost those serotonin and dopamine levels.

Meet Tool Library Members!

Meet some of our newest members and check out what they’re working on in the pictures below!

They may be smiling and bright-eyed now, but just wait until they’re half way through their project, covered in drywall mud, and they realize they’re missing a tool they need for their project. Booo.

Actually - that’s no big deal! Why? Because they’re Denver Tool Library Members! They can just stroll on back to the shop and pickup (most) any tool they need for no additional charge! As an added perk our staff will do their best to help you figure out which tool you need and console you in your muddy times of woah.

That sounds EXPENSIVE. Those tools in those pictures look really NICE. How much is it to get one of these practically infinite free tool borrowy memberships?

ONLY $150 FOR A WHOLE YEAR?? YOU GUYS ARE NUTS.

Ian is our resident woodworking expert, jokester, and all around great guy who teaches Woodworking I: Shop Safety, Power Tools 101, and Cutting Boards. When you take one of his classes you’ll definitely be learning a lot, laughing a lot, and talking about your favorite ice cream flavor.

Class Spotlight! Beekeeping I: Hives and Honey. The last class of the season is Saturday, June 8th at 4:30pm.

Ok, so you found a colony of bees- now what? Ok, so you somehow managed to move the bees into an apiary- now what? Ok, so sadly the colony didn’t make it through the winter- what went wrong?

Sounds like you should sign up for our Beekeeping I: Hives and Honey class! In this course, we’ll cover the basic anatomy of a honeybee, the different caste systems within the colony, how the colony functions as a super-organism, how to "read" comb, different styles of hives, hive management, and honey harvesting. This is a great class for beginner beekeepers or those curious to start beekeeping! And you will also be prepared for Beekeeping II: Hands on Hives.

Share the Tools: $8,370 Raised!

Thanks in big part to Chuck & Jean Townsend for their recent donation of $5,000, we have now raised $8,370 in 2024, and are close to our $10,000 goal!

Thank you EVERYONE who has donated to our Share the Tools Fund big and small. With our new and improved Financial Assistance Program open, your contributions have already helped 36 people and 3 organizations get help affording our services - we estimate that to be $4,950 in assistance!

“I want to teach myself and my son how to take care of our home. It helps him to see me fix, reuse, and build things rather than buy or hire.”

-2024 Financial Assistance Recipient

“The opportunity to be able to work in the workshop would give me a chance to build things that I want to use in my home now and maybe even some things to gift to loved ones as well! Maybe I'll even find a bit of community which would mean the world to me.”

-2024 Financial Assistance Recipient

“I recently moved and am in the process of starting a new life from scratch - I am also in recovery and really want to use my time forming new connections, learning new skills, and starting new hobbies to support my new lifestyle.

HOW DOES THE SHARE THE TOOLS FUND WORK?

Every dollar you donate goes into a fund. This money pays for the tools, space, and staff needed to ensure that underrepresented individuals and organizations creating positive change have access to our programs. As long as there is money in the fund, we are able to provide free/heavily-discounted Tool Library Memberships, Classes, and Open Workshop Hours.

YOUR MONEY GOES DIRECTLY TO…

  • Increasing the availability of financial assistance for individuals & organizations dollar for dollar

  • Adding new, high-demand tools for you to borrow

  • Repairing and maintaining our 5,000+ available public-use tools

  • Taking care of our staff so they can take care of our community
