We’ve blurred the lines between Open Workshop Hours and Classes to create a new sort of thing: Ladies & Gentlethems Open Workshop Sessions w/ Dani! The first of these monthly sessions will be Sunday, February 16th.
Your Project, Our Workshop. Space for women + LGBTQ+ woodworkers
This beginner-friendly woodworking session is for underrepresented aspiring makers including women, gender-expansive, and LGBTQ folks. Work on your own project at your own pace alongside a supportive community. You'll have access to our complete collection of industrial woodworking tools and the guidance of an expert woodworker to answer any questions along the way. Stay for as long as you'd like for this full 5 hour woodworking community session. Take your time planning, preparing, and building your project. Meet other like minded folk, share ideas, and make a friend. Be sure to bring all the materials you may need.
Who is Ladies & Gentlethems Open Shop Session for?
Ladies & Gentlethems Open Shop Sessions is a response from women and the LGBTQ+ community who have expressed interest in opportunities to cultivate their skills and build community in a protected space. For this reason, we respectfully ask that this space be reserved for women, trans, and non-binary individuals.
Why does the DTL have specific shop hours for women + LGBTQ+ people?
The DTL provides dedicated shop hours for women and LGBTQ+ individuals in effort to create a welcoming environment that acknowledges the unique challenges they face in trades and maker spaces. This initiative aims to cultivate a community where individuals can work alongside others who may share similar experiences and perspectives in a comfortable atmosphere. While we hope for a future where all our spaces naturally feel inclusive to all, we’re excited to provide this meaningful step toward that goal right now.

About the Teacher: Dani (they/them or she/her) has been DIYing since their teenage years, when their mom taught them how to safely use her miter saw in the family living room. Dani spent nearly a decade working as a landscape contractor, has built two small backyard homes (a yurt and a 12x8 tiny home on wheels), and since moving to Denver has enjoyed learning to build furniture at DTL. They are excited to share the liberated feeling that comes with the tool know-how to build the thing you want, how you want it.
