Welding II: Aluminum TIG Class

Have you heard aluminum is "hard to weld" or struggled to lay down THE DIMES with aluminum? This course aims to demystify aluminum TIG welding and guide you toward making your own Instagram level beads.

What You'll Learn:

  • Characteristics of aluminum welding

  • Welder settings and components

  • Hand techniques and finesse

  • Pro tips for welding any metal

A short lecture on the mechanics of aluminum welding will be followed by rounds of practice welds guided in real time by the instructor. Each student will complete the class by welding their own picture frame. There will be time for Q&A.

TIG has been known to carry a learning curve but unquestionably yields the prettiest results. This class is centered around positive, uplifting guidance to help all students add another valuable skill to their DIY tool box.

  • Age Limit: 16+ (guardian required if under 18)

  • Clothing/Equipment Requirements?: Please wear closed shoes, long pants, and sleeves (preferably no synthetic material) that you don't mind getting dirty. If you wear hair ties or reading glasses, bring them.

About the Teacher

Matthieu Lafontaine is a metal artist with over 20 years of fabrication and design experience who has a passion for bringing a vision into reality. His diverse portfolio includes structural aluminum skylights, gas pipelines, stainless decommissioning equipment, trailer based mobile stages, bicycle frames, mechanical contraptions, furniture and kinetic art.
